Tonight is opening night for the Scarlet Pimpernel at the Empress Theatre. The cast and production team have been hard at work on this show since the end of October. Everything is now set and everyone is ready to open tonight. The cast and crew are fully prepared to have an amazing opening, and a fantastic run of the show. The talent in this show is staggering.
I was fortunate enough to be cast as part of the ensemble. There were many times that I couldn't figure out why I had been cast in this show at all. So many people who auditioned were cut, so how did I make it in when I'm not nearly as good as the rest of these people? The conclusion I came to is that I've been volunteering there for a few years now, so they knew I could be counted on to do the scene changes and make my entrances. I know I am also a decent enough singer to not be embarrassing as well.
This past week has been incredible. I am overflowing with gratitude, love, and humility. Because of the amazing talent in this show, I have become a better singer, dancer, and actor. The people in this cast have become like family to me. We have all worked so hard to make this show possible. I love everyone in this cast and that happens so rarely. We have all gotten better and better together. Alone, we were good, some were great, but as a whole, we are FANTASTIC!
I don't feel so out of place in this cast anymore. I feel like I'm not the strongest, but I definitely fit in on stage, and vocally with everyone. I am infinitely grateful to have had this opportunity and to do what I love doing with such a talented group of people. This is my public thanks to the production staff at the Empress Theatre for making all of this possible, and for allowing me to be a part of this.
