Eldredge Reunion

On July 29th-30th, Wil and I took a trip to his grandparents' house, in Roosevelt, for the Eldredge family reunion. I had never been to Roosevelt before, which was a shock to everyone in the family since I'd been around the family since I first started dating Wil 10 years ago. I guess he finally decided I was a keeper and so he could show me around Roosevelt.

The Eldredge home there is gorgeous! Wil had been telling me for a while that I would love their house since it is the style of house I have told him that I would want when we get our own house. He was right! I loved that house, even though it didn't have air conditioning.

We had a lot of fun spending time with the Eldredge clan. On Saturday, we all sat together and everyone told stories about memories of all the rooms in the house. It was so fun to hear all the stories from Wil's aunts, uncles and cousins. He even shared some stories himself. Although his stories make me fear for what our kids will be like at a young age, I still enjoyed hearing about what he was like as a kid.

After the stories, we went to Marion's to eat. Since Marion's isn't a very big place, we decided to split into groups. All the grandkids went together in the first group. It was really fun to hang out with all the cousins and eat delicious foods. Marion's is amazing! I don't even know how to describe it. It's all Wil ever talked about when talking about Roosevelt, well that and how pretty the house is. It is a restuarant that is a lot like an old fashioned soda shop. In fact, that's what I'd say it was. Marion's is not only a resturant, but it's also got a lot of random stuff for sale. It was a tiny place that was crammed full of a whole lot of stuff. It had the bar stools you'd expect from an old fashioned soda shop, and even had 2 or 3 booths to sit at.

Their food was fantasic, but my favorite thing was the ironport. Ironport is a soda that tastes like a mix between cream soda, and root beer (two of my favorite sodas). It was great to experience this bit of small town charm.

After Marion's, Wil's grandma suggested that all of her kids show their kids (so all Wil's aunts, and uncles show the cousins) around town and talk about their memories growing up in Roosevelt. We were the only ones there of Wil's siblings, so his dad drove the two of us around Roosevelt and shared his memories. I wish I had brought a video camera or a tape recorder. It was so much fun to hear about his memories of growing up in Roosevelt and the people he knew. I really enjoyed the time we spent driving around.

The reunion was great. I love the Eldredge family, and spending time with them. My favorite thing about this reunion was getting to hear all the memories, good and bad. It reminded me how important it is to document your life so that the future generations can hear about it.
