Hello, Dolly Auditions

Yesterday, I auditioned for Hello, Dolly, at the Empress Theatre in Magna, UT. Right after work, I headed to my car, turned on my iPod and started warming up and practicing my audition song. I arrived around 6 (which was when the auditions started), and there were already quite a few people there. I saw a few of my theater friends waiting to audition, so after signing in, I went over and we chatted. It helped me a lot to have them there and to be distracted by catching up. We joked and laughed a lot, and my nerves were apparent by my hyperness. I did some really weird noises and voices, and kept the small group of us giggling. I couldn't help it. I was so nervous about the audition that it spewed out into crazy energy. They all loved it though so I guess it was ok. Besides, it helped to keep me distracted from the fact that I was about to sing for a group of people.

After waiting around for a bit, two of my friends did their audition. They sounded amazing as usual, which made me even more self conscious and nervous. When they were done, they came back out to continue to chat and be my support until it was my turn. Finally, it was my turn. I think it was one of the best singing auditions I've done. I sounded really good, despite having only had about 10 minutes to warm up and practice, all while driving in the car and trying to get out of work mode. The director congratulated me on hitting the high note at the end and seemed very happy with my audition. I feel very confident that I will be in the cast, but I have no idea for sure.

Tonight is another audition night, and then call backs are on Saturday. I'm feeling good about my chances, but you never know who may show up and have a better audition, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. The cast list will be posted on Monday. Since I am going camping on Monday, I'm sure I will be checking my phone constantly to see if it's posted. After Monday, I won't have any cell, or internet service so they better post on Monday! Now that the audition is over, it's time for the worst part, waiting to find out if you're in, and who you will be playing.
